An elliptical head with a ratio of the major axis to the minor axis of the generatrix of the revolving elliptical sphere of 2.0 is customarily called a standard elliptical head. The mechanical properties of elliptical heads are second only to hemispherical heads, but better than dish-shaped heads. Since the depth of the elliptical head is between the hemispherical head and the dish-shaped head, the requirements for stamping equipment and molds and the manufacturing difficulty are also between the two, that is, it is easier than the hemispherical head and more difficult than the dish-shaped head. In recent years, the use of spinning manufacturing technology has brought convenience to the manufacture of large-diameter elliptical heads. Oval heads are widely used in medium and low pressure vessels due to their better overall performance.
